Studio Project
Date
Spring 2022
This project was completed in Marie Saldaña's Spring 2022 studio, which focused on exploring experimental living through an architectural lens.

The concept, "communal living for introverts," envisions a shared space for a family of four, a couple, and an individual, striking a careful balance between privacy and community. The front of the space serves as an art studio dedicated to installation art, with individual studio spaces for the residents.

All living areas are communal, including a shared kitchen and living room. A modular, moveable couch allows the space to adapt to different needs—expanding for large gatherings or rearranging into smaller, enclosed sections for private moments.

For residents who are not working artists, offices are incorporated into the gallery space. Though spaced apart to create a sense of separation, the offices feature mesh walls, maintaining a subtle connection and fostering community throughout the workday.

To provide privacy within the communal setting, sleep pods are designed with separate entrances—one for the family and another for the remaining residents. Additionally, the design explores how color influences mood. Colored lighting and mesh dividers define different sections within the open floor plan, subtly shaping residents' experiences and interactions within the shared space.
